New Zealand Certificate in Cycle Skills Instruction (L4)

This programme is for people who help cyclists use their bikes confidently and safely.

By completing the Cycle Skills Instruction certificate, you will be equipped to instruct participants in the skills required for riding safely on roads and paths, and you will have specialist knolwedge in one of three electives.

Before you start

To enrol in this programme, you need to be working as a cycle skills instructor, in a paid job, self-employed, or as a volunteer with regular and consistent shifts.

Please note that if you wish to enrol in Advanced Skills, you must first complete the Intermediate Skills elective.

What's involved?

This qualification is between 40 and 60 credits depending on the elective, and is designed to be completed in 5 to 7 months.

You'll be trained and observed in the workplace. Your assessments will be completed online.

You will complete core modules, and one of three electives:

The core modules are:

  • Planning, conducting and reviewing cycle skills training sessions for individuals and groups, tailored to the capabilities of participants
  • Applying hazard identification and risk management principles for cycle skills training sessions
  • Running inclusive cycle skills training sessions.

The electives are:

  • Beginner Skills: Instructing participants in the beginner skills of developing balance and basic bike control for riding in a traffic-free environment
  • Intermediate Skills: Instructing participants in the intermediate skills required to confidently ride on local roads. (You must hold the Intermediate Skills elective before you can enrol in Advanced Skills)
  • Advanced Skills: Instructing participants in the advanced skills required to ride with confidence on the full range of roads where cycling is allowed.

Playing sport at an elite level is a great career, but it doesn't last forever. This programme helps players learn more about themselves, their sport and their long-term ambitions.
By completing the Player Development programme, you will learn and demonstrate transferable skills that are valued by employers across te ahumahi ā-rēhia, the active recreation, leisure and entertainment sectors.

New Zealand Apprenticeship in Facility Operations (L4)

This apprenticeship is for people who contribute to the smooth operation of facilities, places and spaces in te ahumahi ā-rēhia - the active recreation, leisure and entertainment sectors.
After completing the Facility Operations apprenticeship you will be ready to operate, monitor and maintain facilities that are welcoming and fit-for-purpose, where people from all walks of life can come along and get involved.
Level 4

New Zealand Certificate in Ngā Taonga Tākaro (L3)

This programme is designed for people actively involved in ngā taonga tākaro, such as: hakariki, kaipara, kī-o-rahi, kuku-mamau, manu pakanga, pipi, ruru-nei, tauronarona, tī-uru, poitoa, matimati or rākau. In completing this progamme you will be having fun while leading, teaching or playing ngā taonga tākaro with whānau, hapū, iwi or other rōpū.

New Zealand Certificate in Sport and Recreation (Programme Delivery) (L4)

This programme supports kaimahi who deliver pre-designed sport and community recreation programmes, events and activities under guidance. Completing the Programme Delivery certificate will prepare you to work in programme delivery or coordination roles, and promote an active and healthy population through recreation and sport.
